PHILADELPHIA, PA - McMobile, Inc., an authorized Apple computer reseller and service center located in Upper Darby, donated 2 iMac computers to an EEG Biofeedback study conducted by Quietmind Neurofeedback Services.
The end-of-study celebration, which took place on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the Northwestern Human Service (NHS)'s Mt. Airy location, marks the end of nearly a year of joint research devoted to helping children with ADHD, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. During the celebration, Yukio Tezuka, CEO of McMobile Inc., awarded two iMac computer systems in a drawing to the children who had completed the training program. He stated, "It is my hope that these iMac computers will encourage these kids to continue on their road to overcoming their ADHD and furthering their education."
30 children participated in a series of forty 30-minute brainwave biofeedback training sessions, which taught them to control their brainwave activity to see if it would help them with their ADHD symptoms. The study was funded in part by a $50,000 grant awarded to NHS by The City of Philadelphia, and the results will be reported to the Office of Mental Health's Dept. of Children and Youth Services in early June.
Marvin Berman, Ph.D., BCIAC (EEG) Executive Director of Quietmind Neorofeedback Services, and a long time customer of McMobile Inc., stated, "In much the same way you can train your body, you can train your mind - and that's what we've been doing. Our goal is to identify alternative methods for kids for whom stimulant and other medications are not useful, or for other reasons are a less than desirable treatment alternative."
According to the Surgeon General ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorder in school age children. Children affected by ADHD often have difficulty paying attention, managing distractions, and focusing on tasks.
McMobile Inc., established in 1990, serves home users, businesses and schools in Philadelphia and its suburban areas by providing Macintosh sales, services, and support in a friendly service oriented environment. |
